Tired of the traditional bridal shower; why not have a Jack and Jill

I remember when I was planning my wedding and my bridesmaids wanted to plan my bridal shower. They were shocked when I said I wanted my husband and groomsman included in the party. My husband was getting married too, why shouldn’t he be celebrated as well. So my bridesmaids had to re-evaluate their plans of sweet, and frilly to contemporary and co-gender. One of the added benefits for the bridesmaids was they were footing the entire bill. The groomsman decided they would help out with the cost and some of the planning. Well I guess if you count getting all the alcohol and music to the party as planning. But they did help with planning the menu and left the rest of the stuff to the girls.

So the theme and menu were the first things to change. The menu changed from tea sandwiches, scones, and wine to Italian buffet, wine, and beer with a bartender to serve. The party became a Vegas theme; but that is just what we went with. You can choose a theme that relates to your own wedding theme, beach theme, winter theme, fairytale (princess and prince charming) to name a few. With a Vegas theme the entertainment also had to change. They were planning on having typical bridal shower games and now they set up the newlywed game, advice for the couple, and a poker table.

They set up a photo area and using a poloraid instant camera they took photos of all the guests and had them sign a guest book. They wavered between favors including poker chip bookmarks or mini photo frames to put the photos into. They decided on the bookmarks to go with the Vegas theme. Other suggestions include dice key chains, Vegas theme photo frames, or even a wine bottle stopper. The main thing to remember is it needs to be something that both men and women would like. So if the traditional bridal shower isn't for you and you decide to plan a Jack and Jill I hope this will help you with some ideas.
